Diagnosis to Dunking: Brian’s Journey with Lupus and Scleroderma

Living with an autoimmune disease is a series of unexpected roadblocks. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve tried to meet them with a "Mamba Mentality"—a relentless determination to keep moving and a refusal to let a diagnosis define my boundaries.

I recently had the honor of sitting down with Karin and Chris from the Invisible Strength community as a guest on their podcast, Unseen Yet Unstoppable. We dove into what it truly means to be "Ungstoppable" when your health and your life feel like they’re pulling you in the opposite direction.

During the interview, one of the moments that resonated most was when we discussed the mental shift required to keep going:

“I might have some setbacks, might have some days where I’m not feeling good or I’m in the hospital. But I won’t be stopped. This won’t be the end. I’m going to keep going, whatever that is, even if it’s just an inch a day.”

Control What You Can Control

A chronic illness can make it feel like the rest of the world is racing forward while you’ve been forced onto "pause." While we can’t always control the diagnosis, we can control our response to it. In this episode, "Diagnosis to Dunking," we get real about:

  • The "Invisible" Battle: Navigating the physical and emotional hurdles that the rest of the world can't always see.

  • The Power of Adaptation: How I’ve adjusted my life and my mindset to keep chasing my passions—like reaching a lifelong goal of dunking—despite my body's unpredictable nature.

  • Finding Your Strength: Why resilience isn't about being a superhero; it's about the "Invisible Strength" it takes to show up for yourself every single day.

Why This Matters for Good Life Group

At GLG, our core belief is that doing good should feel great. This podcast highlights the "why" behind our mission. We aren't just raising money; we are building a community where no one has to feel alone in their struggle. Whether it's cancer, poverty, or autoimmune disease, we want to help others find their own version of "Ungstoppable."

We may not be able to change the entire world, but through these conversations and our future events, we believe we can change one person’s world at a time.
